SMOKING CESSATION Millions of people have used hypnotherapy to successfully stop smoking for good.
Studies have confirmed that behavior modification methods have a greater success rate for helping people to stop smoking than any substance substitution approach. Statistics show that nicotine patches, gum, inhalers, shots and other substances that are supposed to reduce the "craving" for nicotine most often achieve only temporary success. Of the behavior modification approaches that have been systematically studied, hypnotherapy proved to be not only the most effective, but also the simplest. (Psychology Today; February 2001: The Power of Hypnosis; Deirdre Barrett, Ph.D.; Harvard Medical School.)
My approach to smoking cessation has been developed and refined over 38 years of practicing hypnotherapy and conducting thousands of one-on-one sessions. My method is simple and effective. Results are immediate and most often only one session is required.
Smoking is a Habit... A Conditioned Behavior
You smoke because smoking has become a habit, not because your body needs the nicotine! If nicotine was as addictive as heroin, as you may have heard "them" say, I wonder why people don't get hooked on the nicotine patches! If nicotine is as addictive as heroin, it makes no sense to substitute nicotine with nicotine so you can stop using nicotine, as with the patches and gum!
Even if nicotine were addictive, "hypnosis" can eliminate the physical feelings of withdrawal.
Think back to when you first started smoking. You did not start smoking to experience the physical effect of nicotine. True, you were probably curious to see if there was some sort of euphoric effect, but probably the effect you got was feeling sick... But you kept on smoking anyway, because smoking was "cool." Smoking made you feel grown-up, more glamorous, more "macho" or more academic-looking. Back then, smoking was just the thing to do you were a part of "The Group." In addition, smoking may have demonstrated your rebellious nature your independent nature: "No one is going to tell me that I can't smoke."
Now you smoke because smoking has become a habit...And a habit is nothing more than a conditioned behavior.
You Have Become Conditioned to Smoke
Think about the moment just before you normally light a cigarette. I believe you will discover that, without exception, your smoking is triggered by a stimulus (an activity or event) that has been associated with smoking; and when any of those "smoking stimuli" occur, your brain automatically triggers the urge to smoke: Wake up in the morning you light a cigarette. Drink a cup of coffee you light a cigarette. Sit down at the computer you light up. Finish a meal you light a cigarette. See someone else lights up you light up. The telephone rings you light a cigarette. Get into your car you light a cigarette. In addition, even the passage of time is a stimulus to smoke it's been half an hour so it's time to light-up.
My Approach
With my approach to hypnotherapy, the habit of smoking is switched off. The urge, the craving and the desire to smoke is eliminated. Additionally, the feeling of withdrawal that most people experience when they try to stop on their own is removed. I change your self-perceptions about being a smoker and implant in your mind the perception that you are now a non-smoker. Consequently, the powers that are in your mind and brain automatically change your behavior and you walk out of my office feeling, behaving and acting as though you never did smoke.
